The fuel taps and carburettors are away being cleaned by Chris Clayden who is using an ultrasonic cleaner to immerse the items. This seems to be the best way to clean the dellorto vhbt 30 c carburettor and fuel pet cocks, (fuel cocks or fuel valves). The gentle process of calvitation bubbles lifting the dirt away from the aluminium without any damage. The ability to clean in all the smallest of areas. The old way would be by hand with a brush and a carburettor cleaner or to use a degreaser. I have done this in the past and taken three times to take apart the carburettors and then to use air to blow the jets clean.I have not had carburettors cleaned the ultrasonic way before but with reading this seems to be the best way to remove any sludge or fuel build up. For most cleaners water is used or an appropriate solvent.
The fuel tank also needs to be cleaned as it has stood still and for many years rust has settled in the tank. This can be seen in the pictures as the fuel taps are taken apart. A fine rust can be seen over the gauze. In one way the fuel petcocks are doing their job in stopping the rust from entering the carburettors.
